Beginning in the fourth century, the Church begin to institute practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving (giving to the poor) for the community to partake in. The Church, throughout the whole of her tradition, has carried these practices into our present day in the belief and confidence that through them we are knitted together with the person of Christ and renewed in the Spirit.

Therefore, we want to strongly encourage the whole of our community to choose some form of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving over the duration of Lent. It can be all of what is outlined here, some of it, or whatever unique practices the Lord might be inviting you to as well. We have also included a section of other helpful resources that you may want to spend time with in Lent. Hold these loosely, they are not meant to be mastered or checked off each day, but are instead a means of opening your life up to God in fresh ways. Let him lead you and speak to you – he will draw you lovingly to himself through it all.
