The theme for the 2nd issue of Verbal\Visual is Time.
Time is a broad subject, which is a big part of why we chose it. It's more than just clocks ticking away. It's memory, it's a measurement, it shapes all things. In the words of J. R. R. Tolkien from the Hobbit:
"This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down."
It can be a devastating thing, and yet, some would say it heals all wounds.
There's much to be inspired by in Time, and that's why we've chosen it as the theme for our second issue.
For this issue, we're looking for visual art and writings around the theme of Time. Examples of what to submit include but are not limited to:
- Verbal: short stories, poems, song lyrics, recipes, essays, etc.
- Visual: paintings, illustrations, printmaking, photographs, etc
Submissions are due by January 12. Please try to stay with in the theme of Time as much as possible. Writings need to be no more than 1500 words, visual content is appreciated, especially for longer writings. Photographs need to be as high quality as possible. If you need high quality scans of physical pieces, have any questions or concerns, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
